Using everyday materials from the house

This was our afternoon set-up yesterday – it was so quick to create yet and Z loved helping to make one herself. Here’s what you need:

You will need:

  • Cork board (these are from IKEA)
  • Elastic bands
  • Drawing pins

Benefits:

  • Early maths skills
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Fine motor skills

I set up a basic grid on the cork board and invited Z to have a go at making shapes. There’s a few variations that you can try – for example I showed her how to make her initial, but as it was the first time we just experimented.

Recommended age: 3+

Please supervise closely!
