It can be really hard to provide babies and tabbies with opportunities to paint. Store-bought paints aren’t really suitable for little ones who put everything in their mouths, but yogurt paints make for a nice alternative – even if you wont be left with a lasting piece of artwork!
This activity is suitable from 8 months plus, providing that your little one is able to sit up independently for several minutes at a time. Please also note that we have used natural yogurt so if your baby has any allergies to dairy, please seek an alternative.
As with any of the activities featured on this website, please do this activity under close supervision and when your baby is well rested. So how do you make yogurt paint for babies?
You will need:
- Natural Yogurt
- Selection of food colouring
- Muffin tin
- Baby wipes / damp cloth
- Bib / old clothing
- Drop sheet under the highchair for any spills!
- Place a spoonful of yogurt into each compartment of the muffin tin
- Mix food colouring in to the yogurt – the more you use the more vibrant the colours!
- Place in front of baby and let them explore!*
*I strongly recommend putting a drop sheet underneath the highchair to catch any spills. It’s also a good idea to strip baby down to their nappy or use old clothing if you are worried about stains.
Whilst the ‘paint’ in the photograph above does look rather vivid, it did come off in the bath. If you are at all worried about staining however, just use a little food colouring – find a level that you are comfortable with!
